First Steps to Debt Relief
First Steps To Debt Relief
If you’re reading this here at Debt Relief Dr., then you probably are already late with some of your payments. Maybe some collectors are calling you, putting the hard sell on you to pay their debt first. Perhaps you’ve been juggling the bills and your mortgage is about to be late – is this the second month you’ve been late? You’re worried and nervous about this – you’ve never had this happen before, and debt relief is first and foremost on your mind.
You’ve always managed your life well – finances too. But, lately, with the price of gas soaring this summer, braces for the kids and huge home heating/cooling bills due, you’ve realized that there isn’t enough money to cover the bills this month. Did your spouse lose a job over the last year or two? It’s a fact – this recession is helping to create the longest stretches of unemployment we’ve ever seen, and definitely no help for debt relief.
And now you’re being backed into a corned by having to choose which bills to pay – and which not to pay. This is a tough decision for anyone because you know this tactic won’t make things better – you’re just buying time.
Don’t panic. Before you can think through your situation, there are a few steps you must take to keep your household together, and to keep you healthy for the battles ahead in the quest for debt relief. Trust me, you can win, if you don’t panic, and if you will keep your wits about you and start your debt relief plan immediately by following the simple guidelines I’ve listed below.
- Always Pay Family Necessities First. This includes food, and unavoidable medical expenses.
- Pay Housing-Related Bills. Keep your mortgage or rent payments up to date. Pay taxes, condo or homeowners fees too.
- Pay the Minimum Required to Keep Utilities in Place. Make sure you and your family have heat, lights and water.
Take of the bare necessities to keep you and your family clothed, sheltered and healthy, and you will have what you need to fight the battles ahead – and win in the quest for debt relief.
